In some instances, they may be sentenced to prison, but are awaiting transfer and are still in jail or a medical facility. It also provides demographic information (sex, race and ethnic origin) for the individual, the individual's current age, their highest educational level, whether they are an English speaker, whether they had previously served in the U.S. Military, the primary region they are supervised by, and their current primary supervision status.

This dataset summarizes occurrences of abuse by type identified during child welfare assessments conducted by DHS with "founded" or "confirmed" findings beginning January 1, 2004. Founded means abuse occurred and resulted in perpetrator placement on the child abuse registry. Confirmed means abuse occurred, but it was minor, isolated and not likely to reoccur, and perpetrator was not placed on the central abuse registry. Data is grouped by calendar year, county and type of abuse. For each child included in the assessment, up to 10 types of abuse may be indicated. Each child may be confirmed of multiple types of abuse on a single assessment, and may have multiple assessments. The county is determined according to the child's county of residence at time of the assessment. A year, county and abuse type is only provided if there were a reported occurrence. There were a small number of assessments without county information in 2004. Beginning July 1, 2009 there was a statute change related to registered sex offenders that changed how information was reported.

This dataset provides the number of victims associated with child welfare assessments conducted by DHS with "founded" or "confirmed" findings beginning January 1, 2004. Founded means abuse occurred and resulted in perpetrator placement on the child abuse registry. Confirmed means abuse occurred, but it was minor, isolated and not likely to reoccur, and perpetrator was not placed on the central abuse registry. If a child had multiple assessments, age is counted into the age category the child meets at the time the most adverse assessment was reported during the year. The county is also determined according to the child's county of residence for the most adverse assessment. Age information is unavailable for a very small number of children. There were a small number of assessments without county information in 2004.
